OPC Mourns Afenifere Leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti; Hails Century-Long Legacy of Service - Akure Nigeria.

The Ondo State chapter of the O’odua People’s Congress (OPC) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the National Leader of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, who died at the age of 100.

In a condolence statement issued on behalf of the group by the Ondo State OPC Coordinator, Comrade Pius Ogunsanya, under the overall leadership of the 15th Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, the organisation described the late centenarian as a distinguished leader, a beacon of wisdom, and a symbol of selfless service.

Comrade Ogunsanya emphasized that Pa Fasoranti’s contributions to the growth of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, as well as his advocacy for good governance and the advancement of the Yoruba people, will remain permanently etched in history.

"His commitment to the ideals of Afenifere, particularly its principles of progressive leadership, justice, democracy, unity, and the welfare of the people, earned him immense respect across Nigeria and particularly throughout Yorubaland," Ogunsanya stated.

The OPC coordinator further noted that Pa Fasoranti, alongside other eminent Yoruba leaders such as Oba Olu Falae, played a pivotal role in sustaining the struggle for cultural preservation, social justice, and the socio-political advancement of the region.

Reiterating the OPC’s core mandate to protect Yoruba heritage and promote regional unity, Ogunsanya declared that the late elder statesman’s lifetime of integrity, courage, and principled leadership will continue to inspire current and future generations.

"Reaching the milestone age of 100 represents a remarkable journey defined by decades of tireless service to humanity and the pursuit of a better society. While his transition is a profound loss to the Yoruba nation and the country at large, we take solace in the enduring legacies he leaves behind," the statement added.

The organisation extended its heartfelt sympathies to the Fasoranti family, the entire leadership and membership of Afenifere, and the nation as a whole, offering prayers for fortitude for the bereaved to bear the loss.

"Pa Reuben Fasoranti may have departed at 100, but his ideals, sacrifices, and selfless contributions to the Yoruba nation will continue to live on. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace," Ogunsanya concluded.
